Wonderful weather for our April work party - quite a few of our members turned out to spruce up the common areas of our beautiful Kitsilano community garden. An exciting season ahead as the city arborist removed the large tree which is going to let in a lot more light to those of us on the west side of the garden. A few images from the day.

First Official 2016 Work Party!

Ah... the sweet smell of compost was in the air. A nice steaming pile of compost made it's way into all of our garden plots and common areas to give our soil a boost for the 2016 season in our beautiful Kitsilano Community Garden. So excited for the season ahead!

Besides compost lots of dedication was given to our common areas that make our garden so special. Our garden has many passionate members who recognize that Kit's Garden isn't just a place for growing food but a space that provides an oasis of beauty and nature for everyone in our community to enjoy.

Party On

The last party of the 2015 season on Saturday had a pretty good turnout by the membership. The predicted rain held off and it was a beautiful day! For those of us who stayed beyond the noon hour - it was downright July like - a real treat for mid-October. Shoes and sweater removed with toes and hands in the dirt - I'm grateful.

Enjoy this balmy weather while you can because ya know that the inevitable will occur - wet dark and rainy days are ahead of us. A few snaps from the work party and last week's rainy weekend (perfect for fall gardening). Thanks everyone for helping to put our beautiful Kitsilano community garden to bed. But... party on... there is still lots of abundance in our urban sanctuary... both culinary and visionary - even in the rain. Enjoy and see you guys in 2016!

Beautiful breezy September work party

A lovely breezy morning for being in the garden. Thanks to everyone who turned out for our Kits Garden September work party including a few of our newest members. A small but effective group that spruced things up for the gradual inevitability of fall. It seems like overnight the season has changed. However, our harvest continues with the harbingers of fall making inroads - spiders are busy weaving their webs... the chinese lanterns are turning a glorious orange and shedding their skins... the sedum 'autumn joy' are coming into their gorgeous light and deep pinks... and the dahlias are still cheery and strong.

Enjoy these still warm days and the visual and textural beauty of the seed heads and pods... for you know that at our last work party of the season in October it will be cool and probably be raining!!
